It’s time to recommit to your fitness goals. We’re three months into 2022 and some of us may have lost some motivation toward getting in shape. Don’t worry, it’s not too late. American Legend Homes has a few tips to help you get moving in the right direction (hint: up and off the couch).
Be SMART by setting goals. Your goals should be Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound. Meeting your goals requires some planning, a training routine, hard work and dedication. But that feeling when you crush your goals will make it all worth it. Whether it’s your first 5k you’re after or hitting those 10k steps a day, a little goes a long way.
HIIT the gym. Whether you turned your American Legend finished basement into a home gym, renewed your pre-pandemic gym membership or are headed to one of American Legend’s community gyms, get in a good sweat session. One of the best workouts you can do is High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT). It’s quick and packs a punch! If that sounds too ‘intense’ not to worry, lots of gyms also offer fun fitness classes, which are a great way to add some variety to your routine. Or you can always hit play on your favorite fitness streaming app.
Take a stand. We do a lot of sitting (working, watching TV and driving) and it adds up. Too much sitting can decrease blood flow to your brain and body, causing mental and physical fatigue. Try a standing desk to keep your body active while you work or take that next call to the streets and get in a short walk. These small changes will help keep your body happy and healthy.
Take a walk or go for a run. This activity requires no equipment, and your American Legend Homes community is the perfect place to lace up and enjoy the scenery. All our communities are conveniently close to trails and parks, and offer stunning mountain backdrops, so get out and enjoy the fresh air and beautiful views!
Instead of hitting up happy hour with your friends, shake things up a bit and plan something more active. Suggest a group activity like dancing, bowling or hiking. It can be hard to break that weekly happy hour habit but remember you’re getting together to relax and reconnect. What better way than trying something new together!
Daily physical activity is key in preventing chronic or life-threatening illnesses like heart disease, stroke, diabetes, obesity, back pain, osteoporosis and depression. Put down your phone or the remote and get up and move. Your body will thank you for it.
