So many happy things happen in the month of April. Easter, spring weather, and of course, it’s also National Brunch Month! Brunch is a combination of breakfast and lunch. It’s that sweet spot where it’s too late for breakfast yet too early for full lunch grub. Many restaurants dedicate an entirely separate menu to the brunch hour with a combination of both breakfast and lunch options to meet every customer's cravings. Not sure how to brunch? Don’t you worry! Here are American Legend’s five ways to brunch the right way!
1. Combine the Favorites: The main focus of any brunch is food. While the name “brunch” is a combination of the words breakfast and lunch, brunch menu items often combine the favorites of those two meals on one plate. For example, the burger, a well-known lunch meal, might be topped with bacon, egg and avocado on a brunch menu. Interested in knowing the history of brunch? Read this Smithsonian magazine article.
2. Brunch Cocktails: Brunch gives many of us a pass to enjoy a drink earlier in the day! A staple cocktail drink during brunch is the mimosa. It is a simple drink to make with just orange juice and champagne. Others have gotten more creative with their cocktail recipes. Get ideas for drinks like the Mint Grapefruit Mimosa, the Kir Royale, the Raspberry Mimosa and the Blackberry Champagne Mule (yum!) here.
3. At home or out on the town: Brunch is one of those meal categories that anyone can do! It can be an easy meal for the family to enjoy on the weekends when everyone wakes up late from sleeping in. It can also be a meal that can be enjoyed out on the town with a whole group of friends. Brunch can be as simple or as extravagant as you want it to be! And once you find your favorite spot, you may find you’ll become a regular. One of our favorites is Hills Café at the Castle Hills Village Shops within our Castle Hills community. We recommend the Hills Crepes with spinach, chicken, mushrooms, tomato cream cheese and hollandaise sauce.
4. Phone Eats First: As brunch has become more and more popular, so has the trend of Phone Eats First. When you are out at a restaurant for brunch, look around and watch as everyone takes a photo of their meal before digging in. The plating of food is an art like none other and the world wants to show off their yummy meals. Major influencers around the world make a habit of posting pictures of their meals (“food porn”) and posting them all over social media to show off their experiences.
5. Friends and Family: At the end of the day, brunch is just like any other meal: no matter what’s on the menu, the most important thing is who you are sharing it with. Brunch can be with family gathered in your American Legend kitchen on a Sunday morning or with girlfriends as a break from the kids. No matter what you eat, as long as you enjoy who you are with, it’s an opportunity to be together.
National Brunch Month is something to celebrate and the best part is celebrating with your favorite people! American Legend Homes encourages everyone to grab your friends and family, go out and enjoy this beautiful springtime weather and get your brunch on!!
