As a family-friendly community, safety is important to American Legend Homes. We observe Baby Safety Month in September but we want to keep babies safe year-round. We could all use a few tips and reminders on safety, especially with the hustle and bustle of going back to school! We’ve compiled a safety checklist to make safeguarding your home for your baby a breeze!
Check toys. This month is the perfect time to purge old toys. Chances are you have a few hand-me-downs. Make a date in your playroom and toss any toys that are broken or that can come apart easily becoming a choking hazard. Make Baby Safety Month fun by researching a new toy to buy that meets all the safety criteria. Your baby will thank you!
Snack Safe. If your baby has moved on from bottle feeding, make sure food is soft and easy to swallow. It can be scary introducing your baby to more solid foods. Experts recommend introducing foods such as bread, soft fruit, avocado, pasta or scrambled eggs. If you want to make your own soft foods here are a few ideas.
Safeguard your home and your car. Don’t be afraid to use baby gates. They are there to keep babies away from potential hazards such as pools, stairs, workout equipment and more. Check the crib. Make sure the crib and other furniture are away from windows, strings and cords. Remember to remove toys and blankets for putting your baby down for the night. On cooler nights use a sleep sack. Check the car seat. We’re sure it’s gotten a lot of use over the summer. Make sure it’s been installed properly. Watch this great video as a refresher!
Upgrade equipment. Use this month to check your baby gear and see what, if anything, needs to be thrown out or upgraded! It’s also a great excuse to retire that old highchair and splurge on one that fits in with your stainless steel kitchen appliances and is as sleek as your granite countertops! Or buy that jogging stroller that the mom blogs are raving about! American Legend communities, like The Grove Frisco and Lilyana, have miles of trails for you to enjoy with your baby!
Most importantly use this month to create a safe home so you can focus on the joys of parenthood. Remember to share your tips with friends. Parenting is hard and we could all use a little help every now and again. As they say – it takes a village!
