Homebuyer’s Guide: What to Expect in the Construction Process

Welcome to the journey of building your dream home with American Legend Homes! Understanding the construction process can make the experience smoother and more enjoyable. We've broken down our 10-stage construction process, so you know exactly what to expect at each step. Let's dive in!

Stage 0: Preconstruction Meeting

Before we start at your home, you will have a meeting with the construction manager to go over your plans, site plans, and addendums for your home.

Stage 1: Forms Set and Trenching, Plumbing Rough, Slab Poured & Cured

In this initial stage, we prepare for the foundation of your home. Forms are set, trenches are dug for plumbing, and the plumbing rough-in is installed. Once the plumbing rough has been inspected, we start the make-up and go through another round of inspections to make sure everything is correctly ready for pour. Once everything is in place, we pour the concrete slab and allow it to cure. This step is crucial as it sets the stage for the entire building.

Stage 2: Framing

Next, your home starts to take shape with framing. This includes constructing the walls, floors, and roof. It's exciting to see the outline of your new home come to life!

Stage 3: Cornice, Roof Decking, Shingles, & Windows, Mechanical Roughs

During this stage, we install the cornice, roof decking, shingles, and windows. Mechanical rough ins for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems have also been put in place. Your home starts looking more complete as it gets "dried in" from the elements.

Stage 4: Inspections & Pre-Drywall Meeting

Before we close the walls, thorough inspections are conducted to ensure everything meets our high standards. At this stage, you will have your second official meeting with your builder. You'll have a pre-drywall meeting to review the progress and discuss any questions you might have.

Stage 5: Insulation, Drywall Installation, and Prep for Paint, Brick/Stone

Insulation is added for energy efficiency and comfort. Then, drywall is installed and prepped for painting. Exterior brick and stonework (if applicable) begin, giving your home its distinctive look.

Stage 6: Doors, Wood Trim, Cabinets, Interior Paint

Interior details start to come together with the installation of doors, wood trim, and cabinets. Walls and ceilings are painted, adding color and warmth to your new home. The brick is also completed.

Stage 7: Counters, Floors, Tile, Backsplash, Fixtures, Mechanical Trims

Countertops, flooring, tiles, and backsplashes are installed during this stage. Fixtures and mechanical trims are added, making your home functional and stylish.

Stage 8: Gutters, Drainage, & Grading, Fencing & Landscaping, Exterior Paint, Mirrors, Showers, Appliances, & Carpet, Final Inspections

We focus on the exterior with grading, drainage, gutters, landscaping, fence, & sod installed. The exterior is painted. Inside, mirrors, showers, appliances, and carpets are installed. Final inspections are passed to ensure everything is working according to code.

Stage 9: Final Touches and Prep for Final Walkthrough

Final touches are being made, and we will prepare your home for the final walkthrough. We address any last-minute details to ensure your home is move-in ready.

Stage 10: Final Walkthrough and Orientation Meeting

In the final stage, you'll have your third official meeting to walkthrough for an orientation meeting with your builder. We'll show you how everything works and address any questions. It's your chance to ensure everything is exactly how you envisioned.

Building a home is a significant milestone, and at American Legend Homes, we're committed to making the process as smooth and enjoyable as possible. By following these stages, you’ll see your dream home come to life step by step. We look forward to helping you every step of the way!
