Great homes begin long before the foundation is poured. They start with thoughtful design, careful planning, and professionals who understand how families live today—and how those needs continue to evolve.
As part of our Experience Matters series, we're introducing Erick, one of our Project Coordinators in our Architecture Department. After more than 13 years with the company, Erick has helped shape countless homes that combine beauty, functionality, and flexibility for today's homeowners.
More Than a Decade of Experience
Erick has been with American Legend Homes for more than 13 years, and while the employee benefits are certainly appreciated, it's the people who have made the biggest impact.
"The employees and benefits have kept me here," he says.
Over the years, he's watched the company continuously evolve to better serve homebuyers.
"Our homes have adapted to the demands and needs of buyers."
That commitment to listening and evolving is one of the reasons Erick believes American Legend Homes stands apart.
"Our willingness to customize floor plans and designs for buyers makes us different."
Creating Homes That Work for Real Life
As someone who helps bring floor plans to life, Erick has seen firsthand how home design has changed over the years.
"Residential architecture has gone from enclosed floor plan spaces to open floor plan concepts."
Today's buyers are looking for flexible spaces that allow families to connect while still meeting their individual needs. Features like expansive open living areas, soaring two-story family rooms, and blended living spaces have become some of the most sought-after elements in modern homes.
But no matter what's trending, Erick believes one principle remains constant:
"A truly functional floor plan meets the needs of each unique family."
That philosophy guides every design decision, ensuring each home is as practical as it is beautiful.
Experience Creates Better Designs
Years of experience have taught Erick that successful home design comes from understanding both current trends and long-term functionality.
"Looking at trends and what sells over time helps you anticipate what buyers are looking for and makes it easier to design homes."
Experience also brings valuable perspective. Each project builds knowledge that helps the Architecture team make smarter decisions, anticipate challenges, and create homes that continue to meet buyers' expectations for years to come.
Advice for Future Homeowners
If Erick could offer one piece of advice to anyone building a new home, it would be to think beyond the finishes.
"Don't worry about the cosmetic things. Focus on the structural things that you cannot easily change over time—like bedroom count, bathrooms, and living spaces."
Paint colors, flooring, and decorative finishes can always be updated. The layout of your home is a much bigger decision, making it important to choose a floor plan that will serve your family both today and in the future.
Freedom to Innovate
One of Erick's favorite parts of working at American Legend Homes is the opportunity to think creatively.
"We have the freedom of design and are open to new ideas and styles."
That collaborative environment allows the Architecture team to continually refine home designs while staying ahead of changing buyer preferences.
Building More Than Homes
One accomplishment Erick is especially proud of is becoming a homeowner himself.
"Being able to build my new house."
That personal experience gives him an even greater appreciation for what American Legend Homes buyers experience throughout the building process.
He understands the excitement, the decisions, and the importance of creating a home that truly fits a family's lifestyle.
One Word: Fantastic
When asked to describe the American Legend Homes team in one word, Erick doesn't hesitate.
Fantastic.
It's a fitting description for a team that works together to create homes designed with purpose, flexibility, and lasting value.
After more than 13 years, Erick still loves what he does because every home begins as an idea on paper and gradually becomes something families will enjoy for years to come.
"I love creating things on paper and then, over time, seeing them in 3D space—watching them come to life."
That's the power of experience. It turns ideas into homes, trends into timeless designs, and expertise into a better experience for every buyer.
