American Legend’s top Black History Month events in DFW

February 1, 2022

American Legend’s top Black History Month events in DFW

The month of February is Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by Black Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history. It’s an opportunity for all of us to educate ourselves and appreciate the culture and history of our Black community. American Legend is excited to share a few events that offer opportunities to embrace, celebrate and learn more about Black history. Here are a handful of events you and your family can enjoy in the Dallas/Fort Worth area this February:

1. Black History Month Movie Series: 42

Grandscape in The Colony will be showcasing a Black History Movie Series every Thursday this month. This Thursday, come and watch the movie “42” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The movies will be shown on the lawn at Grandscape so bring chairs and blankets to get comfy in! This movie series is completely free so all are welcome to join in on the fun, no tickets needed!

2. Special Event at Lewisville Library

The Lewisville Library is hosting storyteller Toni Simmons to speak during Black History Month. This event is for all ages and is free to the public. Toni Simmons will not only be speaking but also singing, rhyming and moving through the stories she will share! You won’t want to miss this experience on February 19, 2 p.m.

3. Second Sunday Funday: Celebrating Black History Month

Right down the road in Irving, you and your family can attend Second Sunday Funday and celebrate Black History Month by making art that is inspired by African-American artists. This event will take place on Sunday, February 13, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to anyone and everyone who wants to attend!

4. Night of Black Excellence

On February 20, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., head over to Fort Worth for a Night of Black Excellence. The Fort Worth Opera will perform a Black History Month concert with several renowned artists. This event's pricing ranges from $35 to $125 per person depending on seating and VIP tickets. Get your tickets while you still can because this show is sure to sell out fast!

If you are unable to attend Black History Month celebrations in the community, but want to emphasize the importance of Black history, culture and achievements in your family and with your kids, this is a great article. Cuddle up on the couch and read it together! Happy Black History Month to all of our American Legend families!
