How to seamlessly transition your secondary bedrooms

How to seamlessly transition your secondary bedrooms

Transitioning secondary bedrooms in your home is an exciting activity for everyone in your family. Whether you’re transitioning from a toddler room to a “big kid” room or you’re swapping out high school graduate’s bedroom for a home office or gym, it doesn’t have to be a difficult task with these helpful tips:

Involve your kids in the transition process:
Mommybites says, “The first step is to take cues from your kid — they’ll be the first to let you know, in no uncertain terms, when they are ready to move to a new or upgraded room” and, “Involve your kids with every step of the transition, from picking out paint colors to choosing their new bed or bed clothes — within reason of course… By keeping your kids involved, you help to foster their sense of independence. You’re giving them control over the world around them, something that they might not have experienced much until that point.”

Transitioning from a kids room to a teen room:
SpareFoot Blog suggests working on the project together, beginning with decluttering the space and relocating old toys and sentimental items into memory boxes. Other important aspects of a teen room to keep in mind are color scheme, perhaps by swapping out “kid colors” for something trendier; furniture, making sure that it’s the right size for your growing teen while also ensuring that it will fit in the room with the rest of the furniture; and storage to help keep your busy teen’s room tidy (as much as possible!).

From teen room to whatever you want!
You might be sad when your teen gears up to move out of the family home, but this is also the time to take the newly opened space and transform it into whatever you want. Maybe you need a guest room, a home office, a playroom for your grandchildren or a home gym- the opportunities are endless. This is a place where you will have absolute creative freedom. Just be sure to store your teen’s belongings somewhere they can find. According to SureSwatch, little touches make a huge differences. After you’ve boxed up the kids’ things and painted the walls a gorgeous new color they say,  “consider what touches would make you feel comfortable if you were staying at a friend of family member’s home. This includes high-quality bedding and super-nice pillows. A chair to relax in and interesting books to flip through.”
