Packing Tricky Items for a Move: Tips from American Legend Homes

Moving to a new home is an exciting chapter in your life, but it's no secret that packing can be one of the most challenging aspects of the process. While packing standard items like clothing and books might be straightforward, there are always a few tricky possessions that require extra care and attention. At American Legend Homes, we hope that your move is as smooth and stress-free as possible. That's why we've put together some helpful tips for packing those tricky items safely and securely:

1. Fragile Glassware and Dishes:

Fragile glassware and dishes need special care to prevent breakage during the move. Here's how to protect them:

- Use bubble wrap or packing paper to individually wrap each item.

- Place padding at the bottom of the boxes and between each layer of dishes or glasses.

- Label the boxes as "Fragile" and "This Side Up" to ensure careful handling.

2. Electronics and Cables:

Electronics and their corresponding cables can become a tangled mess if not packed properly. Here's what you can do:

- Take a photo of the cable connections before disconnecting them to remember how they should be set up later.

- Use cable ties or ziplock bags to keep cables organized and labeled.

- Pack electronics in their original boxes whenever possible, as they often have custom-fitted foam padding for protection.

3. Large and Bulky Items:

Moving large and bulky items can be challenging, but with the right approach, it can be manageable:

- Disassemble furniture when possible to make it easier to transport and pack.

- Use furniture sliders to move heavy pieces without straining your back.

- Consider hiring professional movers for these items to ensure safe handling and transportation.

4. Valuables and Important Documents:

Items of high value or important documents should be kept close to you during the move. Here's how to handle them:

- Keep valuables and important documents in a separate, clearly labeled box or bag that you'll transport yourself.

- Consider using a fireproof and waterproof safe for added protection.

- Make digital copies of essential documents and store them securely in the cloud as a backup.

5. Artwork and Mirrors:

Framed artwork and mirrors need extra protection to prevent damage. Follow these steps:

- Use bubble wrap or mirror boxes specifically designed for art and mirrors.

- Reinforce corners with cardboard or foam padding.

- Label boxes as "Fragile" and "Artwork" to ensure careful handling.

6. Plants:

Transporting plants requires some planning to keep them healthy and thriving in your new home:

- Prune your plants a few weeks before the move to reduce stress.

- Place potted plants in open cardboard boxes with packing material to keep them steady during transport.

- Avoid exposing plants to extreme temperatures during the move.

By using these tips, you can take the stress out of packing those tricky items for your move. Let us help you build not just a new house, but a beautiful new home where you can create lasting memories.
