American Legend shares 6 energy-saving tips

American Legend shares 6 energy-saving tips

As the air gets more crisp in the coming months, it’s a good time to find more ways to save on energy. American Legend homeowners, however, are already steps ahead thanks to high-quality, energy-efficient construction and materials. American Legend Homes uses low-E, argon-enhanced vinyl windows, TechShield radiant barrier roof decking, load-calculated attic ventilation and other cost- and earth-saving features. You can get the most from your appliances with high-efficiency systems, programmable Honeywell thermostats and Rheem tankless water heaters.

Maximizing your energy savings is easy with these tips from the U.S. Department of Energy.

Adjust your thermostat. Your fully programmable wi-fi thermostat allows you to keep things regulated even when you’re not at home. During the day, when you’re home and awake, set the temperature as low as is comfortable. At nighttime or when you’re not at home, turn the thermostat back. The Public Utility Commission of Texas recommends sticking to 68 degrees or lower.

Bring in the sun. During the colder months, you can open curtains to let the sun in and naturally warm up your home. Be sure to keep the chill out by closing them again as the sun sets.

Care for your systems. Your heating system needs TLC too. Be sure to schedule routine service annually for yours to keep it in tip-top shape.

Deck the halls on a dime. Switch your holiday lighting to LED bulbs to significantly bring down the cost of being merry and (very) bright. Be sure to get Energy Star certified lights.

Elevate your efforts. Reverse the direction of your ceiling fans to turn counterclockwise in order to recirculate the warm air that builds on the ceiling. Doing so takes advantage of the heat that’s already inside the home.

Fire it up. If you have a fireplace, the cozy warmth can give your heater a break, but be sure to close the damper when it’s not in use so the warm air can’t escape. And be sure to check out our fire safety tips for the winter months.

Your American Legend home is well-equipped to help save energy year-round, and you can do your part to take it a step further. See the ways your home was designed to increase its long-term efficiency here.
